AN EMBLEMATIC PLACE
STEEPED IN HISTORY

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Maison Louis XIV is much more than just a shipowner's residence : it bears witness to both the maritime past of the Basque Country and a significant event in French history !
In 1660, when the town's maritime activities were flourishing and providing a livelihood for the entire coast and hinterland, it was here that the young King Louis XIV, accompanied by his entire Court, stayed on his way to Saint Jean de Luz for his marriage to the Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain.
The King stayed at the Maison Lohobiague for 40 days and left his name behind.
