Visiting LOHOBIAGUE ENEA
After having welcomed the visitors on the landing, the guide will invite them to start climbing the steps of the monumental staircase, made from light chestnut wood by Johannis de Lohobiague’s ship carpenters. They will reach the second floor to visit the Lord of the house‘s floor. The visit proceeds along the Master of the household’s quarters, who for more than a month, in 1660, happened to be those of the young King of France, then 22 years old. The main Drawing-room, the Bedchamber, called « The King’s Bedroom, the Kitchen and the Dining-room, have surprises in store as far as decoration and furniture are concerned. They were and still are used by the generations that have succeeded one another at Lohobiague-Enea from 1643 to these days. Peppered with anecdotes about the history of the Mansion and the objects that can be found here, the explanations, given by the guide, immerse the visitors into the details and the great History linked to the Kingdom of France, of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and its inhabitants for more than 350 years. Room after room, the visitor will appreciate the contrast between the solemness of a listed ancient monument, reinforced by the presence of waxworks from the former Musée Grévin and the charm of a place to live, still inhabited, as the presence of fitting-outs, as well as bibelots and photographs shows. The latters are personal belongings and keepsakes, placed there by the last descendants of the Lohobiague family. The visit lasts between 30 to 40 minutes. Leaflet in english is given to the visitor if necessary.DIRECTORYOur Address:
